Healthy planet.
Sustainable healthcare.
The Centre for Planetary Health and Sustainable Care is an interdisciplinary research and training environment committed to exploring the complex interconnections between human health, environmental sustainability, and equitable care systems.
We are a passionate, solutions-oriented, interdisciplinary team dedicated to to promoting human health and prosperity while ensuring a healthy planet for all. We are clinicians, epidemiologists, ecological economists, behavioural scientists, health promoters and innovators.
We capitalize on advances in life cycle assessment, data analytics, quality improvement, prevention and healthcare management to find ways to reduce healthcare demand, recommend appropriate care and avoid harmful impacts to planetary health.
We focus on tangible issues like health system transformation, identifying environmental hotspots, sustainable procurement and health for all.
In an effort to treat disease and illness the healthcare system is creating new health problems linked to climate change and environmental pollution.
— Dr. Sean Christie, neurosurgeon and professor in the Division of Neurosurgery, Dalhousie University
Students in medical school and in other health disciplines realize that climate change is making us unwell. Climate-informed health professionals will provide better care and are more likely to lead climate innovations to reduce the environmental impacts of healthcare delivery.

We believe that tackling the complex challenges at the intersection of planetary health and sustainable care requires collective effort.
The Centre for Planetary Health and Sustainable Care actively cultivates collaborations with a diverse range of external institutions and organizations.
These partnerships span academic institutions, healthcare providers, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups, both locally and globally.
Through these synergistic relationships, we aim to amplify our research impact, broaden our training opportunities, and translate knowledge into real-world solutions that advance both human and planetary well-being.
